This is the personal account of Travis Gale’s experience of riding a bicycle around the world during 1999 with a mission of raising R1 million for children living with HIV/AIDS in KZN, South Africa. The story hinges around how a simple form of transport and two ordinary (& very inexperienced travelers who got a lot wrong!) blokes were able to make a difference in the lives of so many. The presentation uses media and imagery to share tales from his adventure, and insights gleaned through his experience which marked the birth of the ‘Life as an Appletree’ metaphor which influences Appletree’s ongoing journey.
